'final' release
by Kevin Roberts (relic25 / grimm)

This map was designed primarily for use on our LAN and as a learning experience, as this is my first attempt at mapping/texturing. Admittedly, the r-speeds are a bit excessive in a few spots, but they shouldn't give anyone with a half-decent video card any trouble. Also, with the exception of the vantage point atop the submarine, none of the problem spots should normally be seen during play. In any case, the r-speeds don't far exceed those seen in "de_railroad" (757 w-polys overlooking the bridge bomb site).

The white snow texture has been updated to a very light blue with white hilites so that the HUD is (faintly) visible.

I've decided to release not only the map but also the map's source file (WorldCraft) and the arctic.wad file I created for this map. Use them however you'd like. I only ask that you share the credit. All files can be found at "www.netcom.com/~relic25"

To anyone who cares, it took around 1 month to design, construct, and texture the map and approx. 1 hour to compile the map on a PIII 600.

Installation:

1. Extract the "cs_chill.bsp" and "cs_chill.txt" files to your CStrike/maps folder.
2. Extract all the ".tga" files to your CStrike/gfx/env folder (create this folder if necessary).
3. Extract both ".wav" files to your CStrike/sound/ambience folder (create this folder if necessary).

Note: steps 2 & 3 are CRITICAL for proper enjoyment of this map. It will look very strange indeed without the new sky. The custom textures have been compiled into the map.

Below is a 'story' to accompany the map if you are interested.

Dec. 15 - Transmission from arctic research station R-25:
"Excavation proceeding. Preliminary readings indicate object 1 to be roughly triangular, 16 m at its base, 31 m from base to apex. Estimated remaining ice cover is 8 m. Object 2 found approx. 100m NE of object 1 this morning. Object 2 is approx. 3 m in length, shape is indeterminant. 2 is only under 3 m of ice-flow. Excavation of 2 expected early tomorrow."

Dec. 16 - Transmission fragment from R-25:
"...emergency...research on specimen for the...think...already shot Johnson ...comply ...attempted..."

CT Briefing:
Polar research station R-25 (coordinates to follow) reported the discovery of 2 unknown objects in the pack-ice. An unidentified terrorist group intercepted the station's radio reports and wasted no time in seizing control of the facility. Their motives are not yet known, but we have decoded some transmissions from the terrorists that suggest at least one of the captive civilians may be key to the terrorists' aims. Your team will be delivered to the objective in a Los-Angeles class submarine to avoid surface detection. Once at the objective, infiltrate the facility and liberate all remaining civilian scientists.
